The story of JCB started in 1945 when Joseph Cyril Bamford started using surplus parts and scrap metals from World War II, the first thing he made was the JCB all-steel tipping trailer which was made from the wheels and tyres from a Grumman Hellcat fighter aircraft and hubs from a small howitzer. 3 years later in 1949 Bamford launched Europe’s first industrial front-end loader and in 1953 he launched the world’s first backhoe loader. Bamford continued to innovate, design, and launch new machinery that impressed the world and in 2004 JCB reached one of their milestones of producing half a million machines, it only took JCB 60 years to accomplish this goal! It only took JCB 9 more years to produce another 500,000 machines.
In 2006 JCB set a new world land speed record for a diesel powered car with its JCB DIESELMAX which was powered by two JCB 444 diesel engines producing a powerful 1500hp, this car achieved a record speed of 350.092mph on Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Working towards sustainability JCB produced its first ever electric mini excavator which produces zero emissions in 2018, this mini excavator was the first in their range of zero emission products and they have been developing this product line ever since.
